Mosel algab Vogeeside läänenõlvult ning kulgeb sügavas orus põhja, alamjooksul kirdesse. Suubub Koblenzis vasakult Reini.


Jõe pikkus on 544 km.


Moseli jõe ääres Prantsusmaal asuvad Épinal, Toul, Pont-à-Mousson, Metz ja Thionville; Luksemburgis Schengen, Réimech, Gréiwenmaacher ja Waasserbëlleg; Saksamaal Trier, Bernkastel-Kues, Cochem ja Koblenz.


Jõgi on andnud nime Moselle'i departemangule ja Meurthe-et-Moselle'i departemangule.
