Ametiühing on isikute ühendus, mille eesmärk on töötajate õiguste ja huvide esindamine ja kaitsmine suhtluses tööandjaga või ka laiemate poliitiliste ja seadusandlike eesmärkide saavutamiseks.
Demokraatlikes riikides rajanevad ametiühingud enamasti demokraatlikel põhimõtetel, teisal (Nõukogude Liit, Hiina) kontrollib ja juhib neid riik.
